CryEngine Failed Attempt

Two issues:
1) incredibly lagged recording using fraps - I have no idea why this is.
2) When I go into game mode my character falls through the floor into the ocean, make exploration slightly difficult.

This post is just to show I did have a go at recording my 30 second movie in CryEngine.

Draft Final Drawings + Explanations of Ideas

I feel like I haven't explained the whole story/thought process behind my design quite well enough, so here goes. The main concept behind my space is a 'reading room', based on my own love for reading/knowledge (Hence the bookcase on the rear wall). Another overarching theme that I've noticed coming through in my design is how the things that I think define me as a person are memories and things from my childhood, and I've found out through this process that I consider my roots as a large part of what makes me unique.

The room is filled with what I consider to be motifs of my life. For example, the french style planters are based on ones we used to grow plants in every spring when I was little, and the glass floor is like the one we had in our bathroom that was always a talking point of our house growing up.

In the space there are large comfy armchairs which I chose because a) they're great for reading and therefore are functional, and b) I'm extremely attached to this type of chair, my grandma who lived here in Wellington had a special room for when she had guests over, and if we were allowed inside it was always hugely exciting for me. My brother and I would always fight over who got to sit in the best armchair. I'm considering making these chairs overly large so they seem more like they did to me when I was smaller.

I want there to be lots of light coming into the space, so to maximise the natural light I've made the doors out of glass, which greatly increases the amount of light that can come into the boat shed during the day. The reasons for wanting a brighter space are that, on the functional side, its good for reading and keeping the plants alive, and on a more aesthetic side, it makes the space appear larger. Ambient light and the natural light created by the sun are extremely peaceful to me and I try to maximise these types of light in my own spaces at home and at my current accommodation. I'm extremely claustrophobic so this is probably why I like my spaces to appear as large as possible.

More Photoshop Drawings

CryEngine Shots

My shed doesn't contain much as most of the objects I plan to put in the shed I am unable to create in Sketchup.

Shots after adding lighting effects - I've only done 5 with lighting effects as I could only manipulate the natural lighting effects. Later attempts at importing my boat shed were failures.

More Inspiration

I really like these images (above and below) and it's getting me thinking about using paint/watercolour as a medium in my final images of my boat shed space.

One of my favourite artists is Roy Lichtenstein - particularly his 'weeping women', I think his use of line weight and shading could be good inspiration for displaying my boat shed space.

Collaged section of the Senses room. Idea for shading of exterior inspired by Matt Webb for RWKA Architects.

Collage section of my environment idea room. I've noticed doing my plans/sections this way have made me better understand the size constraints of the Boat Shed.

Collage plan of my environment idea. This is the first plan where I've thought properly about the light and shadows that would occur if this were a real space.

Sketchup Ideas

Small Screenshot of interior of my boat shed idea.

Short video, just playing around with making a video of my work in Sketchup.

More Plans, Sections, and Other Drawings.

Section of idea with objects/features that interact with the 5 senses.

Drawing of a seat idea, possibly covered with maps of places that are important to me or a wooden floor texture (similar to that of my childhood home).

Plan of an idea involving multiple textures significant to me curving along the ground. The curvy patterns are inspired by the shapes created by water.

Plan of a 'reading room' of sorts, inspired by my love of knowledge and featuring panels illustrated below & gardens of roses to fill the room with scents that remind me of home.

Drawing of textured panels inspired by the Wellington hills sculpture in previous post. This sculpture idea of mine has begun to take on a new meaning as these panels - on a smaller scale these ridges and valleys also appear like water to me as well as the hills they originally conveyed. This made me think of Mihimihi and how you can introduce your river, mountain, sea etc. so I'm associating each panel to one of these.

Section of 'reading room'

Another section of a room designed to interact with the 5 senses.

Plan of the room above featuring map chairs and wall structure inspired by the hills sculpture.
The portability of these cubes represents how the many places I consider special to me are separated by distance, but all link up as part of my identity.

Plan of a room in the style of a cinema, featuring a screen playing childhood movies/films that are meaningful to me. Rug at the front is similar to a rug infront of our tv at home where all the kids/teens sit when we watch things as a family.

Section of the cinema style room.

Perspective of the cinema room showing the rear wall with the screen.

Section of my environment-based plan in an eariler post. Designed to replicate the sensations and environment of my room in the early morning as this is my favourite time and place put together.

A more detailed drawing of the indented pillow/blanket area designed to mimic the feel of a messy bed in the morning as featured in the section above.
